Malawi Paralympics Committee (MPC) president James Chiutsi has been nominated for the International Paralympics Committee’s (IPC) Citi Volunteer Award.

The accolade recognizes someone who has given up their time to support the growth of Para sport on a voluntary basis; either as a classifier, a technical official, an event support or IPC member support.

Chiutsi has since asked the public to vote for him online through https://www.paralympic.org/para-sport/citi-volunteer-award-poll as the winner will be determined based on the number of votes received before IPC hosts the 2023 Para Sports Awards alongside General Assembly on September 27 in Bahrain.

The MPC president has been shortlisted for the award alongside World Para Athletics head of classification Rebecca Foulsham of New Zealand and Norway’s Para Nordic Skiing head of competition Tor Undheim.

Chiutsi said: “Being nominated is a big achievement for MPC in particular and Malawi in general. I dedicate this nomination to the Malawi Paralympic community and all stakeholders supporting inclusion.

“It will be great to eventually win this award and I appeal to the general public to vote for me.”

In 2019 and 2021, he won the sports administrator of the year accolade during Malawi National Council of Sports’ Malawi Sport Awards. MPC was also voted the best association of the year.
